Perlu untuk diketahui sumpah pocong biasanya dilakukan oleh pemeluk agama Islam. Di dalam hukum Islam sebenarnya tidak ada sumpah dengan mengenakan kain kafan seperti ini. Sumpah ini merupakan tradisi lokal yang masih kental menerapkan norma-norma adat.
